Quick Start
Get an introduction to the Vaccine Champion Program
Vaccine champions are healthcare professionals known for helping improve vaccination rates by influencing their colleagues’ attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors. Champions combine knowledge of their healthcare system and/or clinic and a passion for quality improvement to overcome barriers and encourage their colleagues. Learn more about who vaccine champions are and what they do on the Vaccine Champions: Background webpage.
The Vaccine Champion Program trains vaccine champions to deliver the Announcement Approach Training (AAT) to primary care clinics in their own healthcare system.
This is a place holder for outcomes data if appropriate.
“The project was a really great success within [our healthcare system]. We had great staff engagement, and the communication approach taught in the training was very easy for our staff to use. It didn’t slow down the rooming process and fit in with the workflow. Since the trainings, we’ve been seeing improvements in HPV vaccination rates that add up to an additional 250-350 vaccines per month.” – Healthcare system Quality Improvement Lead
The Vaccine Champion Program needs support from healthcare system leadership, quality improvement staff or program partners to coordinate efforts, clinical staff to improve their communication, and most importantly, vaccine champions to motive their colleagues to improve.
This program will require at least 10 hours of champion time and one hour of clinical staff time to implement.
Champions get trained to deliver the AAT and clinical staff participate in a training. Learn more about the AAT on the Announcement Approach Training web page.
Program staff work with healthcare system leaders to identify vaccine champions.
Vaccine champions get trained to deliver the AAT in participating clinics.
Champions or program staff schedule AAT workshops in primary care clinics and invite staff to attend. Next vaccine champions deliver AAT workshops in participating clinics.
Champions meet with program staff to talk about resources for sustaining HPV vaccine improvement. Champions may also want to have follow up meetings with clinics a few weeks after AAT workshops to check on progress.
